Animation Workshops

Animation Session at Cy LibraryBFI animator Tom Hillenbrand delivered Crayford history animation workshops to 150 children at Crayford Library and from  St Paulinus CE Primary School; St Josephs RC Primary School, Crayford Temple Grove Primary School.  Pupils were shown the principals of animation from concept to the final edit using ‘iCananimate’. They first studied Tom’s story-board depicting Crayford’s links with early aviation; they then set about creating the scenes and characters for each of the scenes.  Animation requires patience and a good eye for detail; 25 frames per second need to be captured so every movement in every scene requires full attention.  All the children who took party in the workshops were skilful in their approach and fully participated in the workshops.

The Crayford History website showcases the animation and we hope you enjoy viewing it as much as the children enjoyed making it. Tom Hillenbrand has been running a range of animation and live-action filmmaking as well as graphic design workshops with people of all ages since the mid 1990’s. Recent projects include ‘Crossing  the White Line: The Walter Tull Story’ and ‘Not Forgotten’.  Clients include British Film Institute, Barbican, Westminster Archives, Tate Britain, Design Museum, Lambeth City Learning Centre and Creative Partnerships.
